How It Works

Art of Problem Solving offers its own videos as part of an extensive collection aligned to Prealgebra, Introduction to Algebra, and Introduction to Counting & Probability textbooks. It also curates other video sources, such as smaller collections created by MATHCOUNTS and Math Olympiad competitions that share problem-solving strategies. Choose a textbook (or series) to begin; then view videos indexed by chapter and content. Most videos run under 10 minutes in length. If your school blocks YouTube, they may not be viewable.

In the Classroom

Share videos on your interactive whiteboard or projector to reinforce concepts taught in class. Create a link on classroom computers for students to view in the classroom or from home. Be sure to share a link (or embed) videos on your classroom website or blog for student viewing at home. If you are running a flipped classroom, use these videos as an introduction for students to view at home and discuss the next day in class.

Yay Math! Videos

How It Works

Yay Math! is a series of lively math videos filmed in live classrooms. View videos for Algebra 1, 2, and Geometry concepts. Videos run approximately 15 to 30 minutes in length and include an accompanying worksheet. You can preview the first part of the videos. Wait a few seconds to click "Skip this ad." Many videos also include an online quiz. Just enter the access code provided to begin. You will also need to provide a name and email address. These videos are hosted on YouTube. If your district blocks YouTube, then they may not be viewable.

In the Classroom

If you don’t want to provide an email address for quizzes, use a disposable email address tool such as Mail Catch reviewed here to obtain a temporary email address. Share links to videos on your class website or blog and on classroom computers for student viewing. Use videos as inspiration to create your own math videos or challenge cooperative learning groups to create videos and share them on a site such as TeacherTube reviewed here.

How It Works

New Orleans Math Teacher, Jerome White, has created this site to share his classroom productions with others. He has produced videos fashioned after popular songs with Math themes. Examples are Super Geek sung to the tune of Super Freak, I Solved for X to the tune of I Kissed a Girl, and many more. Videos are presented through YouTube and most are also linked to an original posting with an explanation of the contents. Be sure to also check out his Math Nerdiness page which features his Mathematical explanation of Parallel Parking, Sine Cradle, Rational Functions explanations, and other "Nerdiness." Other linked portions of the site are for more mature students, such as the tattoo designs done by calculus students. The videos are hosted on YouTube. In the Classroom

This is a great find for gifted students or to lure in disengaged math students. Allow them to explore the Math Nerdiness and investigate the Mathematical explanations contained there. Share the videos with students on your interactive whiteboard or projector to add a little humor to Math class. Challenge students to create their own video or multimedia presentations using current Math content. Share the videos on a site such as TeacherTube reviewed here.
