How It Works

Test your working knowledge of copyright laws with this interactive tutorial that addresses the underlying principles behind copyright laws in the U.S., outlines requirements for copyright protection, and discusses parameters for use of copyrighted materials. As the tutorial progresses, visitors are presented with quizzes in the form of scenarios requiring a decision. It’s entertaining, enlightening, and extremely helpful in clarifying copyright issues. You may even want to share this resource with your high school students before sending them off to college.

How It Works

The Environmental Protection Agency provides an entertaining and interactive introduction to the issue of water contamination. Through on-line activities, lesson plans, and interactive games, elementary and middle school students can learn about stream morphology, water quality, surface runoff, and discover how they and their families can prevent water pollution in their homes and when taking part in recreational activities.

Use this site to encourage students to become more involved with current events. Every week assign a group of students a news section to research and report back to the class about. Challenge students to find a photo (legally permitted to be reproduced), and then narrate the photo as if it is a news report. Save this site as a favorite to allow for easy reference whenever you’re in need of fresh ideas and lesson plans. There are many resources available on ReadWriteThink for teaching literacy. Choose from lesson plans and units sorted by grade level, or narrow down your search to specific objectives including fluency, text structure, and more. In addition, ReadWriteThink offers almost 60 interactives including graphic organizers and tools for word work. Be sure to browse through the Printouts portion of the site; these aren’t boring fill in the blank activities. Printouts include charts for reading records, writing tips, and card games.
