How It Works

Energy4me offers a large variety of resources for teaching and learning about oil and energy. Click on the little book titled <i>About Energy and Sustainability</i> to find an interactive about those topics. Clicking on the <i>Into the Classroom</i> book takes you to download-able lesson plans and more. Lesson plans are for all grade levels, in several languages, and all are correlated to US National Science Education Standards. Be sure to explore this site to find additional classroom resources, videos, and presentation materials. Choose from several interactives to test your energy IQ.

In the Classroom

Take advantage of the free lesson plans (and interactives, of course). Use this site as the starting point for individual or group projects. Share videos from the site as part of your career unit. Be sure to provide a link to interactives on classroom computers and your class web page for students to explore on their own.

Learn how to hold the violin, basic fingering, bow technique, violin tuning, and basic music theory. Join in the interactive violin class and practice what you know. Find ten different pieces of written violin sheet music to apply your new skills. Join the self-guided violin string class and discover violin through the ages: Medieval times, Baroque, Classical, and Romantic periods, moving into the twentieth century, and nontraditional collections. Follow each period with the free sheet music to accompany each piece. Use warm-up exercises to strengthen and improve with scales, technique practice, and etudes. Find links for cello, string bass and viola on this site.

In the Classroom

Try something new and learn to play the violin. Offer as a way to challenge gifted students and highlight the multiple intelligence of music. Need to have sound for screencasts, digital storytelling, or videos without copyright problems? Have students learn to play the violin. After-school ensembles have a great variety of lessons and free music. Offer to parents as a way to enrich their student’s learning. Investigate before you take a field trip to the orchestra, and help student’s gain a better understanding and appreciation. Music class comes alive with violins and music theory! Use as a way to add to Odyssey of the Mind or Destination Imagination tournaments.

How It Works

Odd Squad had its start with the television series Odd Squad on PBS Kids. Join the squad as an agent to solve challenges using reasoning and math skills to "put things right again." The activities promote a variety of levels to differentiate for each student. The interactive activities strengthen reasoning and challenge an understanding of math concepts. Find episodes of Odd Squad, the Wall of Agents, and the Wall of Villains on this site and bring the television series to life. After registering, earn agent awards for achievements.

In the Classroom

Challenge your math, science, and gifted classes with a variety of activities and provide differentiation for each student. Introduce Odd Squad on your interactive whiteboard to gain interest and excitement. Make center time engaging and beneficial for each student. Use cooperative learning groups to add more engagement and shared verbal reasoning into the interactives. Be sure to include this site on your class webpage for students to access both in and outside of class for further practice.

In the Classroom

Inspire your students to find worthy causes to give back and help other people in need. Give character education programs real purpose by discovering the many ways people need help. Bring the world of road tripping to your class! Plan journeys as math challenges to determine the amount of money required. Give students a budget and see what happens. Challenge students to create a dream trip and a budget trip. Find the difference between the two. You could use an online tool such as the Interactive Two Circle Venn Diagram, <a href="/single.cfm?id=9413">reviewed here</a>, to replace a paper and pencil Venn Diagram. Bring the settings of your favorite stories to life! Introduce a travel blog by pursuing the saved trip journals. Again, preview what you will show students as not all journals are kid friendly. Post the trips with pictures and a travel diary on your class blog or Edmodo class group.

How It Works

All-inclusive student response is what Plickers is all about. Students do not need to have Internet access. Responders use individualized QR Code cards (print a set FREE from Plickers), to answer questions. You use your mobile device to read the QR Code cards that students hold up. Create an account and get started immediately. No need to wait for an email response. There is a demo to use, or see the Help page for detailed instructions for adding classes, students, questions (with or without images), and folders to organize your questions by unit, topic, lesson and more. You can save student responses to your online Plicker account.

In the Classroom

Create greater student engagement and increased student interest in your classroom with Plickers. Students give their input anonymously. Print out Plickers’ cards and hand out to students. Use an interactive whiteboard or projector to explain how the Plickers cards work. Create questions, with or without images, and add multiple choice answers. Project your questions and possible answers. Have students hold up their card in the position that reflects their answer. Use your mobile device and Plickers mobile app to scan the cards. You will see a bar graph with student responses on your mobile device. These can be saved to your Plickers account. Use Plickers to answer exit questions or to see what students remember from the previous day. Use for formative assessment to identify misconceptions that students may have at the start of a unit. There are cards with larger fonts for young students or the visually impaired. ESL/ELL teachers could use this for vocabulary or sentence structure practice. Unless your school or district has access to a matte-finish for laminating or matte-plastic pockets, you may want to collect the cards at the end of class.

The mission consists of building collaborative partnerships between education, businesses, government, and community leaders to promote learning skills needed in the 21st century for life, work, and citizenship. P21 strives to prepare all students for the challenges of the future. Find a framework for student outcomes with support system outlines. Resources for educators include sample lesson ideas, Common Core alignment, P21 Common Core Tool Kit, professional development guides, 21st century skill maps in a variety of subject areas, case studies of exemplar schools, a newsletter, and a Blogazine. Resources for policymakers include information on definitions, framework, and implementing 21st century skills. A parents’ guide contains information on 21st century skills and leadership. Most downloadable materials are free. Get a press kit or join an advocacy group or mailing list.

Investigate P21 to see if you are meeting your students’ needs for the 21st century.
