Dolch Sight Words

K-2 0 favorites 0 promising practices http://www.mrsperkins.com/dolch.htm Last updated: Fri, 08/27/2021 - 11:48 share

How It Works

This collection of printable documents and PowerPoint shows provides elementary teachers with easy access to materials for reinforcing frequently used sight words. Includes vocabulary lists, flash cards, and a downloadable Dolch Word Book.

In the Classroom

Share the Dolch Words story on an interactive white board of projector, and allow students to take turns reading the lines. Be sure help your weaker readers and ESL students by sharing the vocabulary words prior to reading, either on a handout or by projecting on an interactive whiteboard and highlighting them in the text as you come to them. Practicing saying the words out loud can help students spot them quicker in the future. You can also use the printables of flashcards in a learning center or station, allowing students to practice with them individually or in groups.

How It Works

This interactive food pyramid introduces young children to healthy foods using kid-friendly language. Click on a section of the pyramid to reveal the various foods included in that group. Then click on individual food items to read about their nutritional value. This site includes many original graphics, and links to age-appropriate games and activities. rn<br><br>rnIn 2011, the food pyramid was replaced with Choose My Plate. Learn more (<a href="/single.cfm?id=12909">here</a>). Even so, this site offers a decent amount of information on general nutrition. Also, a few of the links under "Fun Things To Do" were not working at the time of this review.

In the Classroom

Share the activities on your interactive whiteboard or projector. Challenge your students to create their own food riddles, like those at this site.
