How It Works

Math Two is a great site to use as practice for addition and multiplication math facts. Type a response to the given problem and you will get immediate feedback. Activities are marked easy, medium, or very hard. The concept is very simple, yet provides an alternative to simple flash cards. <i>Be aware: the links at the top to activities for specific ages were not all working at the time of this review. Please preview the activities to be certain the links are active. </i>

In the Classroom

Create a link to this site on classroom computers for students to use with math fact practice. Challenge students to increase difficulty levels on the site. Provide this link on your class website for students to use to practice at home.

This guide in the <i>Help I lost my library/media specialist</i> series offers a step-by-step approach to teaching students how to use "big 5" reference materials that are available in most school libraries or classrooms to locate information. The Background Knowledge section asks you to consider whether the resource you are using is outdated; if it is, there are several suggestions for more current resources. You will also find sections for Activities and Extensions for the different resources, adaptable to most age groups.

How It Works

Lil’ Fingers offers stories, games, and activities designed for the smallest of children using large buttons (for little fingers), animation, bright colors, and short stories. The site claims the activities are for toddlers, but many are useful to 5-7 year olds and beyond. Read and listen to stories about colors, opposites, and holidays. Pause buttons offer freedom for discussion or replay while reading. Learn about letters, animals, and spelling while playing in the fun and games section of the site. Don’t miss the video section that includes a 30 to 45 second video for each letter of the alphabet. Many activities are holiday-related for easy incorporation into classroom activities.

In the Classroom

Show one of the letter videos on your interactive whiteboard (or projector) when teaching letter sounds and formation. Create a link to the site on classroom computers for use as a learning center or allow students to play games on your interactive whiteboard as a center activity. Share this site with parents through your classroom website or newsletter as a resource for alphabet and color practice at home.

For help with that, we recommend creating a document or spreadsheet to keep track of passwords for your students. Computer teachers can also use this tool when teaching about online safety/security.
