How It Works

This site provides students with in-depth coverage of the conflict in the Middle-East While coverage ceases in 2005, the information is still valid and can be used to provide background information to the problems that still exist today.

In the Classroom

In a unit concerning the problems in the Middle East, use this site as an activator or introduction to some of the background information student should know before understanding current events. Explore the site with students via interactive whiteboard or projector. Upon reading the articles, create a concept map as a class to explore conflict beginnings and evolution. Use a tool such as bubbl.us (<a href="/single.cfm?id=1207">reviewed here</a>) to create and share the concept maps.

This great science site includes interactives (Avogadro’s Element Hunt, Meg A. Mole’s Bouncy Ball Factory, or Plant It for the Planet, among others). There are also countless downloadable (PDF) activities. The general science topics available at this site include Chemical and Physical Change, Characteristics of Materials, Solids, Liquids, &amp; Gases, Motion &amp; Energy, Planet Earth, Your Body, Art &amp; Toys, and What Chemists Do. Most topics include many specific activities.

In the Classroom

Take advantage of this free site. Share the interactive games (which are called "games," but are highly educational) on your projector or interactive whiteboard. Have students work with a partner and explore the "games" that relate to your current science unit. Why not save the site in your favorites on classroom computers or your class web page, so students can easily access the site. You could use these interactives as a learning station. Use the PDF activities in your class. They are easy to follow, offer step-by-step instructions, materials lists, and more. You could set up science centers focused on each of the activities.

How It Works

An interdisciplinary unit for second graders dealing with "blue themes" in literature. The unit uses Blueberries for Sal, Jamberry, and several other books to build "blue" connections. This lesson plan was one of the winners in a lesson plan contest sponsored by TeachersFirst. TeachersFirst editors have added technology options where appropriate.
