Bring American history, innovation, invention, and ingenuity into the classroom through The Henry Ford's extensive online collections and educational resources. The site's Archive of American Innovation contains 26 million artifacts, with more than 100,000 digitized for online exploration, and covers themes such as transportation, social transformation, agriculture and the environment, power and energy, communication technology, and design and making. Students and teachers can explore artifacts, photographs, documents, articles, curated collections, and historical stories. Educators can also access classroom-ready curriculum through the organization's inHub learning platform, including lesson plans and activities built around authentic primary-source artifacts and real-world stories. Resources span American history and civics as well as STEAM, invention, entrepreneurship, and design, making the collection useful for both historical inquiry and interdisciplinary learning.

In the Classroom

Have students select a digitized artifact connected to a unit in American history and complete an artifact analysis identifying what they observe, what they can infer, and what questions the object raises. Have students trace changes in transportation, communication, agriculture, or energy across time using objects from the digital collection. Students can organize their findings with Timeline Tool by Read Write Think, reviewed here. Invite students to compare two historical objects with a Venn diagram, considering purpose, materials, design, historical context, and impact. For a digital option, use 2 and 3 Interactive Venn Diagrams by Class Tools, reviewed here.
