The National Council of Teachers of English and the International Reading Association provide a list of 12 standards that offer guidance and resources to help students develop the language skills they need. Also included is a section entitled "Achieving High English Language Arts Standard: A Call to Join the Literacy Compact."
In the Classroom
Share these standards with students at the beginning of the year to provide them of some foresight of what’s to come, and what they will have learned by the end of the year. Don’t just entrust students to read these in a syllabi - introduce the site on the interactive whiteboard and explain each standard and how they will be accomplished, in detail.
